Golf Course Etiquette

Etiquette plays a vital role in the game of golf, and at Cobble Beach, we emphasize the importance of our members and guests embodying those standards as part of our culture. This includes practices such as repairing divots and ball marks, raking bunkers, maintaining an appropriate pace of play, and adhering to our dress code policies.

Check-In

Before you arrive, every guest must read and understand the waiver and release before taking part in any club activities. Please complete the form here.

Upon arrival at Cobble Beach, please drop off your golf clubs at the bag drop located outside the Clubhouse, then park your car and proceed to check in at the Pro Shop.

  • Golf-specific shoes with soft spikes are encouraged.
  • Running or walking shoes are permitted.
  • Golf-style hats, visors, sun-protective hats, and toques/beanies are permitted. A forward-facing brim is preferred and encouraged. Headwear should be removed when entering the restaurant.
The following items are not permitted on the golf course or practice facilities:
  • Casual T-shirts, cropped tops, and tank tops
  • Cut-offs, tennis shorts or skirts, rugby pants, cargo shorts or pants, drawstring joggers, or basketball/athletic shorts that fall below the knee

Range Practice Guidelines

To uphold excellent conditions on our range throughout the season, we greatly appreciate your cooperation. When practicing, please ensure that each successive shot is struck from immediately behind the previous divot. By doing so, you'll only take a minimal 1” of turf on each swing, rather than the typical 6 to 8-inch divot. Practicing in long linear strips, rather than random or box divot patterns, not only simplifies maintenance but also accommodates more members practicing in the same area. Your adherence to these guidelines contributes to the enjoyment and accessibility of our practice facilities for all.

Ball Mark Repair

Ball marks, the indentations left when a ball strikes a soft green sharply, have plagued golfers for generations. While the majority of the work to maintain pristine putting surfaces falls to our greens staff, golfers also bear some responsibility. It is crucial to take the time to properly repair your ball marks during play. A properly fixed ball mark is barely noticeable after repair, whereas an improperly repaired mark can take months to heal. Unrepaired ball marks not only detract from the aesthetics of the green but also contribute to uneven putting surfaces. Your attention to this detail helps preserve the quality of our course for all players.

Divot Repair

If the divot is mostly intact and still has some soil attached, just put it back in place with the soil side down and press it firmly with your foot. This helps the grass roots make good contact with the soil and start to heal. If there’s a gap between the divot and the surrounding grass, fill it in with divot mix and smooth it out with your foot to make it even. If the divot is broken into small pieces or has no soil attached, you won’t be able to put it back properly. In this case, just fill the divot with divot mix, making sure it’s slightly below the surrounding grass level, then smooth it out and press it down with your foot. This will help the area heal the best. You'll find divot mix on the golf carts, at Owen's House, and at the practice range.

Pace of Play

Maintaining an optimal Pace of Play and adhering to Course Etiquette are essential for an enjoyable golfing experience at our club. We aim for a round to be completed by a foursome in under 4 hours and 20 minutes, ensuring a smooth flow for all players. It's crucial to keep pace with the group ahead while staying clear of those behind. Individual players should be mindful of group dynamics and yield accordingly. Additionally, please limit your stopover at the 9th hole to 5 minutes. You can pre-order food and beverages in advance from the carts to save time. Your cooperation in upholding these standards enhances everyone's enjoyment of the game.
